This is a very special place, where children can go and explore the world of horses and develop a deep love and respect for these beautiful animals. It is also a special place where adults can go and fulfill their life-long dream of riding for the very first time, or re-awaken their love of riding after being away for many years. It is also a special place full of the most wonderful horses in the world. At Hartsfield Plantation, we are home to the magical Tennessee Walking Horses. Our Horses

If you are unfamiliar with the Tennessee Walking Horse, they are the “glide ride” of the horse world. They have a unique four-beat “flat walk” and “running walk” and a rocking-chair canter. This makes them superb for trail riding as they are so comfortable to ride. Add to that their easy-going temperament and stamina, and you have the perfect horse companion. We also call the Tennessee Walking Horse the perfect “Boomer” horse, as riders who are getting back into the horse world after many years find their ride to be VERY comfortable for the more mature rider (our older riders have said that they “never want to trot again!”).  Our barn also features excellent show horses, who compete on the naturally gaited show circuit

Our Barn

Hartsfield Plantation is a full-service boarding and training facility that specializes in Pleasure and Show Tennessee Walking Horses. We are located in the North Raleigh-Wake Forest area, and are convenient to I-540 and Hwy. 401 North. With a beautiful country location, we are a great place to enjoy nature and a peaceful environment. Founded in 1780, the Plantation itself is on the National Historical Registry and takes pride in its unique heritage. The facility includes pasture and paddock areas, two barns, a riding ring, a round pen and trails.

We have programs for teaching and training both horse and rider. We have lesson programs for children that focus on riding skills, safety and horse care. We have programs for adults of all levels, and a very special program for adults with confidence issues. We find many, many adults in that category – so we help our riders through that to bring the joy of riding into (or back into) their lives. We also have camps, clinics and show weekends.

For the horses, we have an experienced staff that starts and trains young, inexperienced horses, or tunes them up for versatility, flat-shod competition and trail. And for horse and rider teams, Hartsfield Plantation also takes pride in its established reputation in Tennessee Walking Horse networks throughout the southeast. This allows us to help clients find that perfect horse, whether for trail or show. We pride ourselves on matching the perfect horse to each rider.

We are also a boarding facility, and will give your horse the best of care. Our horses are like family, and our boarders are, too.
